Former Real Madrid and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho have reacted as Kepa’s refusal to obey Maurizio Sarri in Chelsea’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday.
The 24-year-old Spanish goalkeeper caused huge controversy at Wembley by refusing to be substituted for Willy Caballero in the second half of extra time with the game set to go to penalties.
Under-pressure manager Sarri reacted with fury and virtually everyone in his path, smashing a bottle against his seat on the Chelsea bench before almost storming down the Stadium in disgust as the game ended goalless after 120 minutes.
However, Mourinho, who won three Premier League titles during his two spells at Stamford Bridge believes Kepa’s actions put the Italian coach in a weakened position.
The Portuguese told DAZN: “I don’t like that he leaves his coach and the assistant coach in a situation of great fragility,’ “Luckily, I never had to go through this.
‘The goalkeeper wants to show his personality, his confidence wants to show that he is there and wants to be at the shootout and make saves, and I like that.’
The Blues lost the game on a penalty shoot-out, Jorginho and David Luiz missed from the spot kick while Leroy Sane lost his penalty kick for Manchester City but Chelsea welcome London rival Tottenham to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday in their next match in the Premier League.
