Breaking: Former Nigerian Footballer Dies After A Brief Illness

Taiwo Ogunjobi, former NFF Secretary General, dies after brief illness

Taiwo Ogunjobi, former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is dead.
The news of Ogunjobi’s demise have been confirmed on the Nigerian football governing body’s NFF via their Twitter handle.

The ex-Nigerian international played for former WNDC now Shooting Stars before representing his fatherland in 1973.
His death was confirmed by his Special Adviser and media aide, Tunde Shamsudeen on Monday, February 11.
Before his death, the former secretary general of the NFF, was in Ilorin to watch the game between Kwara United vs Wikki Tourist.
Ogunjobi’s death comes 35 years to the day after making his debut for the Green Eagles in an Olympic qualifier against Morocco.


“He was in hospital on Saturday and doctors ordered a bed rest, but he passed away Monday morning in Ibadan,” Tunde Shamsudeen, told BBC Sport.
The Ibadan hospital did not give any further details about his illness.
He was twice defeated by Amaju Pinnik when he contested as candidate for NFF president and lost on both occasions.
Before his death, he was chairman of Osun State Football Association and has spent over 20 years in football administration.


He was also an administrator of the club he once captained during his playing days, Shooting Stars, leading them to Africa Cup of Champions club (now CAF Champions League) in 1984

He was arrested along with three other top officials after $8million went missing during the 2010 World Cup finals.


In October 2013, Ogunjobi was banned for 10 years by the NFF for his role in the transfer of a former youth international.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Nigerian sports family have been thrown into mourning following the death of
the publisher of Gong News, Jide Fashikun.
Though, the reason for his death is yet to be known but the news was confirmed by one of his close friends Nneka Ikem Anibeze on
