Riyad Mahrez came off the bench to score the winning goal as Manchester City went two points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday evening.
Former Leicester City winger who replaced the injured Kevin De Bruyne just before half-time, fired past Artur Boruc at the near post just 10 minutes into the second half and that was enough to see Pep Guardiola’s men to victory.
Raheem Sterling had a hat-trick of chances to put the game beyond doubt but some fine keeping from the Polish goalkeeper kept the score down.
Sergio Aguero nearly scored one of the goals of the season, chipping Boruc from 30 yards out but his audacious effort cannoned back off the crossbar, while Mahrez went close to adding a second but his close-range header was finely tipped away by the Pole again.
Manchester City held on for a narrow victory that puts the pressure back on title rivals Liverpool, who can return to the summit with victory over Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday.
